President's Message

Keep Blossoming

The beauty of June is the advent of a season of warmth and blossoming; both nature and humans begin to grow and stretch in the sunshine. To fuel our professional growth, we also need creative and data-driven techniques to apply to our work and to reconnect with peers so that we may continue to be passionate about philanthropy and our community.

That’s why I turn to AFP Advancement Northwest: to learn about the latest trends as well as new approaches and tools to bring back to the office to help our team realize our goals and deliver on our mission. This also why I attended the Forum on Strategic Fundraising last week.

Do you have lunch plans on June 20th? Come learn about the power of Cultivation Events as an essential part of your annual plan. In addition to local in-person workshops, you can access information and guidance from our international AFP network whenever it’s convenient for you by reading articles, watching webinars, or by posing questions to other fundraisers so you don’t have to reinvent the basics, rather just revamp them.

You’ve come to the right place to advance and grow. Together, we can continue to provide exceptional service to our communities and the world.

Asa Tate
2019 Advancement Northwest President

Thank You to Christina Chang

The Advancement Northwest Board would like to extend a special thank you to Christina Chang of Christina Chang Equity Consulting for facilitating a session at our annual board retreat. We discussed how to transform institutional culture to ensure a focus on and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and access. The board acknowledges this work is important and ongoing, and they are committed to the process.

Programs to Attend this Month

Cultivation Events: Deepening Donor Connection with your Mission
Thursday, June 20
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
2100 Building

It’s time to take your donor engagement strategies to the next level. It’s time to plan some cultivation events. In this brown bag lunch session, Shaunessy Jones, Associate Director of Community Engagement at Treehouse, will talk you through why you need to plan events specifically for cultivation, who you should invite, what your goals should be, where to host such an event, and how to make it a success!

CFRE Webinar: The Application Process
Tuesday, June 25
10 a.m. PST

CFRE International is bringing back one of their most popular webinars so you can feel fully confident in assembling your CFRE Application. CFRE Certification Manager Paul Cavazos will walk you through how to fill yours out plus share tips and tricks to help you have a solid understanding of how the application works.

We are accepting nominations for National Philanthropy Day! Who in our community should be recognized? Deadline to nominate is July 7.

Take Advantage of Your Benefits!

As Asa mentioned above, AFP members have a huge variety of educational opportunities from which they can draw. Have you thought about an e-course or a webinar or watching a few micro-learning videos? If you missed AFP ICON or want to hear a presentation again, all of the sessions are now online. Use every bit of the professional development available to you for a discounted or no cost!
