And the Recipient of the 2019 Professional Achievement Award Is ...

May 23, 2019

Congratulations to Carol Borgmann, CFRE, CSPG!

On June 7 at the Forum on Strategic Fundraising, we will honor Carol Borgmann, CFRE, CSPG as the 2019 recipient of the Professional Achievement Award!

For nearly four decades, Carol has been a champion for philanthropy. She began her career in the performing arts working for Pacific Northwest Ballet, the Seattle Symphony, and Spectrum Dance Theater (where she was a founding member, associate artistic director, and dancer). Carol served as Director of Development for the Northwest AIDS Foundation, then moved to Music Works Northwest before joining the team at Lakeside School as Director of Major and Planned Giving in 2004.

"If you reflect on the organizations she’s touched, she left each of them stronger and more durable than before,” said nominator Debra Crespin. “It’s all in the details and the quiet and powerful way that Carol has worked both in front of and behind the scenes to lead, to produce, and to raise the bar about our profession. She leads with a powerful blend of humility and knowledge."

Carol served as an AFP Board member for six years, recruiting dozens of members to serve with her on the board, on committees, and as a mentor. As well as being a longtime leader of AFP Advancement Northwest, she has also been a leader of the Washington Planned Giving Council, the Association of Charitable Gift Planners, and a board member at Leave 10.

"Carol immediately made me feel “at home" as a valued member of AFP and a colleague with her warmth and exuberance and commitment to philanthropy," said William H. Dorn IV, Director of Development at Northaven Senior Living. "She has served our organization with tireless distinction."

The 2019 Professional Achievement Award presentation will be on the second day of the conference, Friday, June 7 during lunch.

"I will remember the smiling faces of the seven wonderful colleagues who surprised me in my office to share the news. I am enormously grateful to receive the Professional Achievement Award," said Carol. "I love the work we do and the people we are privileged to work with."

How Much Can You Learn in Two Days?
Challenge Yourself!

What is your goal for the Forum? Do you want to network, learn more about how to integrate DEIA strategies into your workplace, engage young professionals?

With hundreds of fundraisers and nonprofit professionals in the room, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn from a wide variety of peers and experts.

We are offering four tracks at the 2019 Forum on Strategic Fundraising: Community, Career Advancement, Smart Structures, and Organizational Culture. You can choose to follow one track or mix it up.

Laura van Dernoot Lipksy, founder and director of The Trauma Stewardship Institute and author of Trauma Stewardship: An Everyday Guide to Caring for Self While Caring for Others and The Age of Overwhelm will be the keynote. With so many of us working in fields with vulnerable people, dealing with our own personal traumas, and concerned about the state of the world, Lipsky’s talk will help us develop strategies to soothe our souls so that we can better tend to our work.
