Save the Date: Forum on Strategic Fundraising

Have you thought about your professional development for 2019? Consider the Forum on Strategic Fundraising. Mark your calendar for June 6 and 7 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue to make sure you can attend!

I always leave the Advancement Northwest conference inspired, motivated, and excited to continue growing in my fundraising career. The speakers and sessions are always insightful and thought-provoking, and I really appreciated the table group discussions this year!

– Jennifer Jenkins Gill, Lead and Thrive Consulting

Congratulations to the 2018 CFREs

This year, 13 fundraisers joined the CFRE ranks. Congratulations to Geoffrey Ball, Lisa Bury, Mary Dunaway, Amanda Gomez, Candace Hickey, B. Michelle Johnson, Catherine Merlo, Madeline Mulloy, Errin Patton, Allison Roberts, Sarah Szabo, Robert Wiseman, and Jennifer Wolbrecht.

CFRE (which stands for Certified Fundraising Executive) is the best-known accreditation for fundraising professionals. Individuals with CFRE after their name have passed a written examination and met other standards for tenure, education, and fundraising achievement. They also have agreed to uphold the AFP Code of Ethical Standards and the Donor Bill of Rights

CASE 2019 Internship Application Open

Do you know someone who is interested in a fundraising internship? Our friends at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) have an internship program they might want to check out.

The program is offered in the summer. Interns work in all areas of the university advancement office to learn multiple aspects of fundraising. A mentor is provided for each intern along with networking opportunities, weekly eLearning, online resources, complimentary registration to the 2019 CASE Conference for Student Advancement, and a paid trip to the CASE Internship three-day training in Washington D.C. Applications are due February 8.

Member Voices

One of the rewards I have reaped from volunteering with Advancement Northwest is the opportunity to join with colleagues from diverse organizations to plan education programs like the Forum on Strategic Fundraising. It is a joy to bring creative ideas to life – such as the Lightning Talks segment from this year's Forum. My amazing colleagues joined in and helped to make it a smashing success! Sometimes in our working world, we are "leading from the middle," and not always in a position to see our novel ideas fully realized. By volunteering for this Association, I have had amazing opportunities to plant seeds and see them bloom.

Did You Know?

As a member of Advancement Northwest, you are part of improving and enhancing the environment for fundraising. Two ways this is shown is through public policy work and research efforts.

AFP leaders work in partnership with other national associations to direct public policy changes that are in the best interest of the charitable sector, independent of political party affiliation. They also support research projects into best practices and trends in philanthropy and fundraising. This includes large-scale projects like the Women's Impact Initiative and the Fundraising Effectiveness Project.
