President's Message

Let's Make the Most of 2019 Together

I'm humbled and honored to have been chosen by the AFP Advancement Northwest Board of Directors and membership to serve as the 2019 President of our phenomenal chapter.

Grace, integrity, and teamwork, coupled with a passion for our community and the diverse people who live here, have served me well throughout my 23 years in philanthropy. I hold these key ingredients close as I begin my tenure leading our chapter, which is one of the largest within the AFP International network.

Advancement Northwest exists to serve our members. YOU are our top priority. There are many benefits of membership and I encourage you to take advantage of our resources and programs. This month, as we all set new personal and professional goals, consider mentorship. I participated in this thoughtful matching program and received immense value from the mentor/protégé relationship which blossomed into a trusted lifelong friendship. It's a win/win. Get started today.

If you have questions about becoming a member, please email Helen Sernett, at [email protected], our VP of Membership. There are a variety of membership levels available; she will help you find the right one for you.

I am looking forward to seeing you at our exceptional training and networking events throughout the year. Let's continue to grow joy-filled philanthropy together!

Asa Tate
2019 Advancement Northwest President

Mentorship for Members

The mentor program has been one of the best things for my career! Since we've been working together, I found a job – my current job and my target role! – and I joined a nonprofit board. [My mentor] supported me through all of it.

– Erika Skinner, Ventures

As Asa said above, mentorship is a win/win. Whether you need help to strategize the next steps in your career or you have the experience to guide a newer fundraiser, our mentorship program offers both mentors and protégés the chance to learn new professional and interpersonal skills.

Mentor/protégé pairs work together for a year, checking in every month. Fill out our simple and quick application if you are ready to advance your career and skill set. This is the year to set and achieve your goals!

The mentorship program is a member-only benefit. Take advantage of this rewarding experience.

Why Volunteer?

Serving on the Monthly Programs Committee is so rewarding—I get to meet new people, learn about their passions and interests, and then I have a hand in shaping and planning the programs that will help them grow professionally. Plus, I get to work with a fun group of volunteers that have become close friends and mentors!

– Andi Price, Campbell and Company

Advancement Northwest is a volunteer-led organization. We are dedicated to learning from one another and to leading the charge in fundraising best practices and ethical engagement. Your voice and ideas are important.

If you are seeking to increase your network, build leadership skills, or gain specific experience to enhance your career aspirations, contact us at [email protected] to discuss what volunteer role would be best for you. You can serve on a committee, work on a specific project, help run a special event, and even join the board.
