Financials for Fundraisers

Thursday, November 29 | 8 to 10 a.m.
Campbell & Company

1200 6th Ave, St 600, Seattle, WA

Featuring Ryan Dean

Fundraisers don't have to know about financials, right? Wrong! It is critical that you can read and understand basic accounting reports and be able to translate the information for donors.

Join Ryan Dean for this fun and accessible lesson. Ryan will use training materials and FareStart's development profit and loss statement, so you can learn about the various aspects of finances. He will decrypt acronyms and have you "speaking accounting" in no time.

This is a great session for fundraising professionals of all experience levels who want to improve their financial chops or get a new perspective on financial positions of nonprofits.

2018 Winter Social & Annual Meeting

Monday, December 10 | 6 to 8 p.m.
Sole Repair Shop, Seattle

Growing within the field of fundraising is all about connections. If you are new to the sector, you might not be familiar with this concept. Ask any seasoned professional and they will tell you that your next position is most likely to come through a first- or second-degree connection.

How do you make the connections needed to advance in your career? Joining colleagues at the Advancement Northwest Winter Social is a great start. You'll have the chance to spend a couple of hours with fellow fundraisers from around the region. It's a great time to share successes and get advice.

Join us on December 10 to build your network! This is also a chance for members to vote on the 2019 Board of Directors and the slate of officers which will be announced soon.

Leading Edge Educational Program

High Net Worth Donors: Where They are Giving and What Motivates Them

Thursday, December 6 | 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
U.S. Trust, Lake Washington Room, 33rd Floor, Seattle

Featuring Janet Aldrich Jacobs, CFRE

Every nonprofit is looking for the next big gift. Where do they come from? What is the motivator?

Join Jan Jacobs as she shares insights into the giving practices of high net worth individuals and families in the U.S. Jan will discuss national trends and how giving is changing. She will also look at cases where high net worth individuals are giving, how those individuals volunteer and what else motivates that level of support.

Update Your Resume on the Career Center

Is your resume on the AFP Advancement Northwest Career Center? If not, consider updating it this month and uploading it.

Many positions are posted for fundraising jobs in December and January. By posting an updated resume, you increase the odds of the right person seeing your fantastic skills and contacting you about an open position. Don't miss out on your future.

AFP International Has a New Website

If you haven't seen it yet, check out the new AFP International Website at

AFP's goals for the new website are to make navigation easier, so fundraisers can find resources and services to grow, and to make the website feel more community focused.

Please be patient with us as we update the links on the Advancement Northwest website to important pages. If you find a link that no longer works on our site, please email us so we can get it fixed.

Submit a Proposal to Present at the 2019 Forum on Strategic Fundraising

Have you been rockin' a campaign? Do you have stellar communication skills, especially with supervisors? What about ideas for making nonprofits more inclusive? We want to hear them!

The RFP process for the 2019 Forum on Strategic Fundraising is now open. The Forum is a core part of how we deliver on our mission to build leaders who fundraise to transform communities locally and across the world. You can be part of that transformation by sharing your strategies, tips, and tricks.

While you're at it, mark your calendar for June 6 and 7 for the Forum on Strategic Fundraising. The 2019 event will be held in a new location at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue, WA.

Interested in speaking on a smaller scale? The Advancement Northwest's Core Programs committee is planning on a new approach for planning monthly programs in 2019 for Essentials and Leading Edge. The committee will be curating 1 program per month to bring improved focus on programming and sector trends as well as needs for our membership. For 2019, we will be focusing each quarter on a different phase of the Donor Lifecycle. If you have questions or inquiries, you may contact Vice President of Core Programs, Troy Coalman
