2018 National Philanthropy Day

National Philanthropy Day brings together the donors who support the causes that our local and global communities hold dear, the fundraisers who connect donors' passions to nonprofit missions and each of us who believe in the power of philanthropy to make the world a better place.

Mark Thursday, November 1 as a day to set aside your lunch hour to celebrate the amazing generosity that exists in Washington. If you are interested in being a sponsor of National Philanthropy Day, find out more about the opportunities available this year.

Nominations for National Philanthropy Day are Open!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Philanthropy Day awards in Washington. For the past three decades, philanthropic individuals, companies, foundations and other organizations have been recognized and celebrated for their contributions to the community.

This is your chance to recognize a person or organization that has inspired you with their generosity. Is there someone you know who has been consistently supporting the same causes for years? Do you know of a foundation or company that is investing in a solution to a larger community challenge? Nominate anyone who comes to mind today!

Last month we asked you to share stories through the Generosity Treasure Hunt. Lilliane Ballesteros of the Latino Community Fund of Washington shared this story about a group that inspires her:

Barra Fuerza Verde is a spirited supporter group of the Seattle Sounders that supports a youth soccer tournament in South King County every year. This group of VOLUNTEERS (from the community!) has developed such a deep sense of philanthropy that they decided not to stop there! In the past 2 years, this group of incredible volunteers has raised money to support arts scholarships for Latinx youth and created a resiliency fund to support local immigrant rights groups - they do this all on their own time. This group really proves that philanthropy is all around us and it only takes a group of passionate people to support community.

Nominations are open until Friday, June 22. But why wait that long? Brainstorm with colleagues and reach out to your peers this week. If your nominee is involved with other nonprofits, getting them to also send a nomination makes them a stronger candidate for the award.

To make a nomination, please write a letter that explains why your nominee(s) should receive an award and complete the online nomination form where you will be given the opportunity to upload your letter along with supporting material. Please refer to the nomination guidelines before submitting your nomination.
