Program Description:

Planned gifts can broaden, diversify and maximize donor support for organizations, increasing the number of donors who become leadership gift donors and transforming loyal low- to mid-level donors into significant benefactors.  In this session, you will learn how to integrate planned gifts in annual operations or comprehensive campaigns, secure the buy-in of board members and other stakeholders, use blended gifts to optimize giving, effectively use matches and challenge grants, and use more inclusive counting and recognition policies that reflect total productivity and truly honor donor relationships.

What you will learn:

  1. The strong case for integrating planned gifts in annual operations and comprehensive campaigns
  2. How to set planned giving revenue and notification goals
  3. Transforming board members into planned giving donors and advocates
  4. How to make planned giving everyone’s business in your development shop
  5. Using blended asks to maximize giving
  6. How to use matches and challenge grants to motivate new planned giving notifications
  7. How to count planned gifts in the campaign and provide appropriate recognition to donors

Lorraine Del Prado, CFRE, Principal, del Prado Philanthropy

Lorraine del Prado is principal of del Prado Philanthropy, which provides training and consulting services to amplify the philanthropic practices of nonprofits, charitable individuals and wealth advisors. Prior to starting her own consulting company, she served as Vice President for Seattle Children’s Hospital Foundation and led their principal gift and legacy planning programs. The legacy planning program she built at Seattle Children’s was considered among the strongest and most dynamic planned giving programs in Washington state and among children’s hospitals in north America. It featured 1500+ legacy society members, 300+ professional advisor volunteers, more than $200 million in realized gifts and more than $400 million in expectancies. Prior to her role at Seattle Children’s, she served as the President of Children’s Hospital & Research Center Foundation at Oakland, a fundraiser at the University of California, Berkeley and Sr. Account Executive at New Boston Group, a fundraising consulting and direct marketing company.


Lorraine earned a bachelor’s degree in Humanities, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines and a master’s degree in English Literature from Boston University. She also holds the designations of Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG), Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and Fellow of Charitable Estate Planning (FCEP).

In terms of volunteer leadership, Lorraine is President of Leave 10, Board Member of the Seattle Philanthropic Advisors Network and Associate Dean for Planned Giving at the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy’s Madison Institute.
