Dear ,

The air is a little chillier, the leaves are turning colors, there’s a breakfast, luncheon, or gala fundraiser somewhere every day … it must be Fall!

Here at NDOA, the month of November kicks off with a double-dose of professional development opportunities. First, Strategic Issues Seminar goes behind the scenes with Seattle Foundation personnel for an in-depth analysis of the Foundation’s GiveBig – a groundbreaking event in our region’s philanthropic landscape. Then, just a few short hours later, NDOA offers those new to the field – or perhaps contemplating their next move – the chance to explore the variety of options available within the sector, from specialist to generalist, large shop to small, and everything in-between. Finally, as the calendar flips over to December, NDOA ushers in the holiday season with our Holiday Social. You may remember this as the “Member Reception” in years past, but this year there’s a twist – soon-to-be-members are welcome as well! (Details below.) So come one, come all – we’d love to see you on December 6 at the Museum of Flight!

Very Truly Yours,

Dan Johnson
NDOA Board President, 2011-2012

This past June, The Seattle Foundation launched GiveBIG, a major initiative that engaged thousands of donors who contributed $3.5 million in 17 hours’ time. In total, more than $4 million was distributed to approximately 900 nonprofit agencies as a result of GiveBIG. The Foundation leveraged strategies familiar to many of us – framing an effort around a campaign, building on relationships, multi-platform communications tools, etc. – to get the community at-large excited about participating in GiveBIG.

Now that some time has passed, we can begin to assess GiveBIG’s impact and how it has contributed to shaping our local philanthropy. How can GiveBIG’s strategies help you mount successful efforts at your agency? Come hear Jared Watson, Senior Vice President of The Seattle Foundation, and Ceil Erickson, the foundation's Director of Grantmaking, de-construct this pioneering initiative and talk about its successes, lessons learned and what is ahead for GiveBIG 2012.
