Speaker Bio: Susan Howlett

Susan has been raising money joyfully for 35 years, as a board member, development director, executive director, and consultant to over 1000 nonprofits nationwide. Core faculty in UW’s Fundraising Management Program for 20 years, and longtime leader of NDOA and PSGA, Susan is the recipient of UW’s coveted Award for Teaching Excellence and NDOA’s lifetime Professional Achievement Award.  Author of Boards on Fire! Inspiring Leaders to Raise Money Joyfully, and co-author of Getting Funded, Susan speaks, trains and consults nationally, known for her liberal use of practical tips, stories, humor and chocolate.


Speaker Bio: Shelby Smith

Shelby Smith sets strategy and direction for JLT’s fundraising efforts, and works closely with the staff team on outreach, communications and community engagement. Shelby has worked regionally in the fields of environmental education, digital communications, and environmental and community development nonprofits for over ten years. Most recently she spent four years working with the Washington State University Extension on sustainable economic development initiatives for Jefferson County. She brings strong community relationships, an entrepreneurial eye and a passion for stories to the Jefferson Land Trust. She graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in Environmental Education and Mass Communications.
